Because moonstone has a low hardness, it is recommended that when selecting a stone of gem quality you choose one that has a distinct blue adularescence and is set in a pendant or necklace. For jewelry quality, it is wise to choose one with an obvious sheen, as in beauty grade B. Moonstones that are lower than grade B are low on price, so you may casually choose a pleasing accessory.

The value of three-carat-size moonstone of jewelry quality is approximately US $50 for the stone alone (2004).
