HOW TO CHOOSE
Peridot is relatively inexpensive, so a large gem-quality stone of 10 to 20 carats should be chosen. It is impressive when set in rings and pendants that can display its beautiful mosaic pattern.
In jewelry quality it is important to avoid brownish stones. Even though they may be called peridot, stones with a strong brownish color lack beauty and have little value. It is important to choose a gemstone based on beauty first, not just on the name and price of the stone.
The value of a three-carat-size peridot of jewelry quality is approximately US $250 for the stone alone (2004).
