Defects in Diamonds
Milky Cloud
The entire stone appears cloudy to the unaided eye. This cloudiness has a pronounced effect on beauty.
Cleavage
Cleavage can bee seen in the upper right under 10x magnification. This imperfection makes the gemstone prone to breakage, greatly affection durability.
Cleavage has caused the diamond on top to break, while the bottom diamond has a large cavity on its surface.
 
Fracture-Filling of Emeralds
Oil-filled emeralds appear beautiful because their fractures are less visible, but caution isadvised: These stones will revert to their original condition if the oil degrades.

Surface Abrasions on Rubies
